Missouri police chief charged with aggravated assault

While making a statement about the ongoing legal troubles of their local police chief, the mayor of Mosby, Missouri, summarized what every attorney works so hard to illustrate to the courts on behalf of his or her client, "that there's two sides to every story."

The Mosby police chief was arrested in November 2011 for aggravated assault. However, prosecutors did not file charges against the police chief until April 24, 2012. The town's mayor believes that the delay in charges is due to the fact that the situation isn't as clear cut as many may think it should be.

Kansas City man sentenced to prison for drug charges

A federal judge sentenced a 43-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, man to 10 years in federal prison for conspiring to distribute methamphetamine. The judge ruled the man is not eligible for early parole.

According to court records, the Kansas City man pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute methamphetamine in October 2011. Because he agreed to plead guilty, his attorney may have been able to negotiate a reduced sentence for him.

Prosecutors say boy sexually assaulted girl in middle school

Being charged with a sex crime is a scary experience with the potential to seriously damage an individual's reputation, especially if the accused is still a minor. Because there are often only two people involved in the alleged crime, many of these cases come down to one person's testimony against that of the other.

In the Kansas City area, a 16-year-old male is facing serious criminal charges in just such a case. Juvenile authorities have accused the eighth-grader of juvenile delinquency for allegedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old classmate at Raytown Middle School in February. The charges against him include forcible rape and sodomy.

Texting 16-year-old driver charged with manslaughter

Recent statistics collected by the Missouri Highway Patrol point to cell phone use as the cause of 1,837 accidents in 2011; 11 of those accidents were fatal.

Sadly, a 16-year-old Northland girl now knows all too well about the dangers behind texting while driving. Recently, Kansas City prosecutors decided that the girl will be tried as an adult in connection with the September 2011 wreck that killed a Camden Point woman.

KC man sentenced for attacking women near Trolley Track Trail

Readers may remember hearing about the attacks on women along the Trolley Track Trail last summer. A 24-year-old Kansas City man who admitted to the crimes will spend the next 30 years in prison for the assaults, a Jackson County judge ruled earlier this month. Felony charges such as the ones this man faced are serious accusations that carry lifelong consequences.

According to news reports, the man admitted to kidnapping both of the women and sexually assaulting one of them. In February 2012, the man pleaded guilty in a Jackson County court to forcible sodomy, one count of robbery, four counts of armed criminal action and two counts of kidnapping.

Olathe man takes plea deal in baby's death

A 26-year-old Olathe man accused of killing his baby took a plea agreement April 2, 2012 to avoid the possibility of spending 20 years in prison.

The man pleaded no contest to reckless second-degree murder. A Johnson County District Court judge found him guilty and scheduled the man's sentencing hearing for May 14, 2012.

Kansas man accused of killing girl, burning her remains

A 38-year-old Kansas man is on trial for allegedly luring a 14-year-old cheerleader out of her house in the middle of the night, murdering her and burning her body.

Police think the man also attempted to sexually assault the girl, who lived in Great Bend, Kansas. Prosecutors charged him with capital murder, attempted rape, criminal solicitation of a minor, vehicle burglary and theft of property.

Man faces life in prison for DUI deaths

A Galena, Kansas man is expected to be sentenced to life in prison after a jury found him guilty of killing two people in a drunk driving accident. While this drunk driving case is more serious than most cases, all DUI allegations can have serious consequences.

According to court records, the man was driving under the influence of alcohol July 16, 2009. His vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by a 41-year-old Pittsburg, Kansas woman at an intersection south of Pittsburg. Both the woman and her 13-year-old daughter died in the crash.

Wichita teacher charged with sexual assaulting girl

A 32-year-old Kansas teacher was arrested earlier this month in Wichita, and charged with sexually assaulting a young girl. The school district where he works has placed him on administrative leave.

The man is being held in jail on suspicion of four counts of rape, and one count of electronic solicitation of a child, and two counts of indecent liberties with a child. He has not been formally charged. The Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office will review the case against the man and determine whether to file formal charges.

13-year-old assaulted in front of home

Today conflicts between teens occur in many fronts. Some confrontations are physical and some occur through text messaging and social media websites. Young people are not only caught up in physical altercations, but also now from cyber bullying -- both can have dangerous consequences.

Kansas City police officers are searching for two teenagers who allegedly set a 13-year-old boy on fire last month. According to the police report, the 13-year-old boy was walking home from school when the alleged criminal activity took place.
